JANUARY - Annual Business Meeting
January 27, 2013
The 35th year of the Freewheelers kicked into high gear at the Annual Business Meeting held January 27th, at the Vallejo Yacht Club. Club members arrived early and in style, showcasing many classics...and one could almost be mistaken for thinking it was the Lincoln Owners club meeting, for all the Lincolns of such number and variety!
FEBRUARY - Hiller Aviation Museum
February 24, 2013
We joined the Packard club to tour the Hiller Aviation Museum. Founded by the helicopter pioneer Stanley Hiller Jr. in 1978, the purpose of the museum is to serve as an institution where science and aviation problems and solutions can be explored and solved.
MARCH - Treasure Island and Disney Museum
March 17, 2013
We visited Treasure Island and then traveled to the Presidio to enjoy the Disney Museum. Treasure Island was originally home to the 1939-40 Pan Pacific Exposition and intended for use afterwards as San Francisco Airport. In the Disney museum the fascinating and inspiring story of Walt Disney, whose artistry, creativity and vision helped define 20th century American culture, is brought to life.
APRIL - FDR Presidential Yacht
April 28, 2013
A fantastic cruise aboard the historic USS Potomac. It was “Opening Day” on the Bay so we enjoyed the company schools of pleasure craft as we plied the waters of the San Francisco Bay on the USS Potomac, FDR’s floating White House. We even saw pirate ships waging a battle!
MAY - 35th Anniversary Celebration
May 12, 2013
The New Member Brunch turned 35th Anniversary celebration of the Freewheelers. A large cake ordered and delivered by board member, Glen Taber helped us celebrate our 35 years as America’s first gay car club, and featured the Freewheeler’s insignia emblazoned across the top.
JULY - WCM The Car That Loved Me
July 13, 2013
Cool ocean breezes offered a welcome respite from the heat for those traveling to San Luis Obispo for the 29th Annual West Coast Meet! Event hosts Great Autos of Yesteryear selected a James Bond theme dubbed “The Car Who Loved Me” with lots of fun and surprises in store.
AUGUST - Pool Party
August 11, 2013
A Scenic Drive down the Peninsula to Jack Adam’s and Bill Burks’ beautiful house in Emerald Hills for a Barbecue and Pool Party.
SEPTEMBER - Benefit Car Show
September 22, 2013
The 29th Annual Benefit Car Show will be one for the history books. For the first time we got the City’s blessing to close off three blocks and have a street fair, of sorts. Not only did it bring in increased pedestrian traffic, it brought out Freewheelers we hadn’t seen for quite some time. We filled up two blocks of 19th Street and one block of Collingwood with 50 – count ‘em – 50 beautiful cars.
OCTOBER - Vintage Trailer Museum
October 13, 2013
Gypsies, Trailers, Tramps and Thieves! Steve Katkowski, our host for this event, is a dedicated collector of all kinds of things and his depth of knowledge about his cars, trailers and memorabilia is impressive. The trailers included a 1927 Holt Prototype that has never been used. It has a Pullman car type balcony on the back. One can imagine Calvin Coolidge standing there announcing that he wouldn't be running for President in 1928. The 1950 and 1951 Vagabond trailers conjured up images of Lucy and Ricky's misadventures in their movie, "The Long, Long Trailer".
NOVEMBER - Blackhawk Museum
November 17, 2013
The Freewheelers made their return to the fabulous Blackhawk Auto Museum in Danville. With a whopping 100 attendees, the event was a great success! Jay Remick and Michael Amodt, who have become well known at Yum Yum Donuts, arrived early with the back of their beautiful, yet so practical, 1953 Buick Roadmaster Estate loaded with coffee and donuts
DECEMBER - Holiday Party
December 04, 2016
The weather gods co-operated as 86 Freewheelers got together to celebrate the holidays together for their annual pilgrimage to Bayhill Manor, the Half Moon Bay home of host John McCue. The sky was so blue, ocean so purple and Golf Course Fairways so green that it looked like a 1954 Technicolor movie. You expected Rock and Doris to hop out of a cherry red ‘54 Coupe de Ville Convertible and begin singing “Home for the Holidays”.
